Cutting the Gordian Knot: Kurdistan Independence
While the focus of Europe may have been on Spain and the result of Cataloniaβs independence referendum, in the Middle East a planned vote on self-determination by Iraqi Kurds went ahead despite the objections of the Iraqi and Turkish governments. The Herald's contributing Foreign Editor David Pratt was in Northern Iraq and spoke to the Governor of the city of the Kurdistan capital Kirkuk, Dr. Najmaldin Karim.
