Back in the late 1970s, viewers who tuned into Top of the Pops were treated to a glimpse of the future, as an androgynous, pale faced man did his best to become an android, while synthesiser riffs pointed the way to when robots would take control.
Gary Numan's rise to the top was meteoric, but his fall was just as quick. But after time in the wilderness, recent years have seen Numan stage a remarkable comeback.
His new album, Savage: Songs From a Broken World finds us looking at a planet ravaged by the effects of climate change, and we sent our own resident Numanoid Steven Rainey to brave the elementsβ¦
