What's life like for Berkshire's newest MP?
Slough's Tan Dhesi talks to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Berkshire's Sarah Walker about the challenges of being a new Member of Parliament after he held the town for the Labour Party at the 2017 General Election.
Tan Dhesi, Slough MP (Lab):
"They give you a pack from the Returning Officer, to give you a heads up about what'll be going on. You get inductions, the official parliamentary laptop, and the various HR and parliamentary services.
"It is definitely a steep learning curve.
"I've been a member of the Labour Party for fifteen years, and first became a councillor in 2007.
"Having worked in the private sector, I think that gives you an extra insight into the daily lives of people and what it takes to succeed.
"I should be getting the keys to my Westminster office this week, and that takes time because there are over 650 MPs - this week I have also taken the lease for the constituency office."
