Spam celebrates 80th birthday

Spam was a staple of Western diets following World War 2. These days in Europe and North America, it's looked down on by some as a rather poor quality, cheap food choice. In other parts of the world though, like South Korea and American Samoa, Spam is held in higher esteem. There, it's given as a gift to friends and family. British food historian Lizzie Collingham spoke to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Mike Johnson about how Spam came to be born. Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images
