India's WWI Labour Corps remembered

Some 1.5 million Indians took part in the fighting, and ancillary role duties, during World War One. More than half a million served in the Indian Labour Corps - which supplied the soldiers and sailors with weapons and ammunition, food and fuel - but their stories have been largely forgotten.

Although they rarely saw service on the front line, many died or were seriously injured, and their stories have been largely forgotten.

Dubbed the Unremembered a hundred years on, efforts are being made to commemorate their contribution.

Ritula Shah spoke to the Indian High Commissioner, Y.K. Sinha, and the journalist and historian, Shrabani Basu.

The last post on the classical Indian instrument, the Sarangi, was recorded specially for us by Sandeep Kandola.
