Radiohead chat to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 6 Music about Ok Computer
It's the 20th anniversary of Radiohead's album Ok Computer. And you can't deny what a brilliant and important record it is. Radiohead have arguably done even better records, but this marked the moment they fulfilled all their potential and became one of the best bands in the world.
It not only stood out miles from the crowd on 1997 but it made the rest of the crowd look like they were standing in the wrong place and the ground underneath them was looking very shaky indeed.
Leading up to its recording Radiohead had been honing the songs (and their playing skills) live across the and had a confidence that led them to ignore the usual confines of a commercial recording studio and buy their own equipment and camp out with their new producer Nigel Godritch and let a world of new inspirations and experiments flow out if them.
They also had songs that tapped into political and social apathy, technological anxiety, the depersonalisation of relationship... and sci fi comedy the hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
