Emergency cow airlift for Qatar
A bizarre emergency airlift of cows is about to get underway, as a diplomatic dispute between Qatar and its Gulf neighbours threatens food shortages. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain have all cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, because of its alleged support for Islamist groups and Iran. That's led to much disruption to trade, particularly in food. Qatar used to get most of its milk from Saudia Arabia. Now a Qatari businessman, Moutaz Al Khayyat, has come up with a plan to fly 4,000 cows from the US and Australia to a farm he owns, just north of Doha. Mohammed Sergie, a reporter for the financial news group Bloomberg in Doha says it's an extraordinary story.
