Scientists announce antibiotic breakthrough

Scientists in the US say they have made a breakthrough by modifying an existing antibiotic, vancomycin, to create a new, more resistant version. Vancomycin was first sold in the 1950s and is used to treat infections of the skin, bloodstream and bones, as well as meningitis. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Mike Johnson talked to Anthony Coates, professor of medical microbiology at St George's medical school in London, and asked him: how significant is this breakthrough?
