Boy misses out on school place

One parent has suffered heartbreak after finding out her boy will not be going to his first choice primary school in September, which is just 500m away on their new housing estate.

The Round House Academy on the Love's Farm development in St Neots is just a short walk away, however Oscar didn't get a place.

Instead Oscar and his mum Emma Stevens face a one-and-a-half mile journey to attend Priory Park Infant School.

The Round House Academy has doubled in size since it opened about eight years ago.

The school's website says that 290 children are currently on its roll, with the capacity to accommodate 420 children now the second phase of building is complete.

Ms Stevens says that the over-subscription "should have been something that Cambridgeshire County Council foresaw".

"He's not going to be able to go to school with his friends or neighbours," she said.

The council say that planning of school places is planned strategically across an area, not just individual schools.
