Fibroid diagnosis on honeymoon: 'Thought I couldn't have kids'

Two days after getting married, Denise Campbell-Brown was rushed to hospital on her honeymoon and diagnosed with fibroids.

"It was the first night I was in Dubai that I realised I had swelling around my stomach and I couldn't urinate," said the 40-year-old.

"I was thinking 'I'm not going to be able to have kids. I'm going to have an operation. I've only just got married'."

One in three women develop fibroids in their 30s and 40s, and they are nine times more common in black women than white women.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women's Health found that 62% of women they surveyed said they didn't get enough information about fibroid treatment.
