Michelle Obama: β€˜Black Like Me’

A documentary on β€˜shadism' - prejudice based on the colour of your skin - moved many listeners.

'Shadism' or 'colourism' is a type of prejudice where someone is discriminated against because their skin is deemed to be β€œtoo dark.” And when ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ journalist Valley Fontaine saw Michelle Obama for the first time it occurred to her that she was one of a kind – a darker skinned woman married to a lighter skinned man - something she realised was pretty rare. She decided to delve a little deeper with the help of producer, Lynsea Garrison and the result was the documentary, Michelle Obama: β€˜Black Like Me’ which has provoked many listeners to write in with their questions. Valley joins Rajan Datar in the studio to address comments and queries from far and wide.

When Kalypso Schulmeister heard a recent Tech Tent episode dedicated to assistive technology for disabled people she was disappointed the word Braille was not even mentioned. She outlines her concerns to Rajan who has given the team the chance to respond.
