Ulil describes how the country’s hardline groups have used this opportunity to galvanize tens of thousands of moderate Muslims to take to the streets and demand Ahok to be jailed. Ulil believes Islam’s unique sensitivity to acts of blasphemy is due to a deeply held fear by many Muslims today that Islam is under attack.
