2017 marks 50 years since the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act. In the twelve years before the Act was passed, abortion was the leading cause of maternal mortality in England and Wales.
Recorded in Newcastle in 1964, here’s a very personal and detailed account from an anonymous woman who underwent a backstreet abortion. The interviewer is Mary Redcliffe.
