Judges in the most powerful court in the UK have begun hearing the government's argument that it has the right to start the process of leaving the European Union without a debate in Parliament.

Last month, the High Court ruled that ministers needed to seek the approval of Parliament before triggering Article 50, which is the formal beginning of negotiations to end Britain's 40-year membership of the EU. But the government is appealing that decision.

Conservative MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan, SNP MP Stephen Gethins, Labour MP Chuka Umunna, Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake and deputy leader of UKIP Peter Whittle all debate whether Parliament should be voting on Brexit.
