Why do we celebrate Halloween in the first place?

Anne Diamond spoke to Reading University's Halloween Historian, Anne-Lawrence Mathers.

Anne-Lawrence Mathers:

"What we have now is a complete mash up of different things."

"Somewhere in there is the ancient Irish Gaelic feast of Samhain, the portable lanterns, the concept of a threshold between the living and the dead being crossed comes in."

"People have theorised, but you can't prove anything."
