Trichet: We need more democratic accountability at a European level
After nearly six decades of expansion, the European project appears to have stalled.
In June 2016 the UK voted to leave the European Union - the first full member to do so - and a wave of anti-EU sentiment is sweeping across the region.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Tanya Beckett talked to Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank 2003-2011. He believes the answer to the EU's current problems is greater integration.
