Eubank Jr comments on Brook v Golovkin βcontemptibleβ β Costello
Mike Costello criticises Chris Eubankβs comments following Kell Brookβs loss to Gennady Golovkin.
ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ boxing correspondent Mike Costello has described comments made by Chris Eubank Jr following Gennady Golovkinβs win over Kell Brook as βcontemptible.β
Brook's corner threw in the towel during the fifth round of his middleweight world title loss, and afterwards Eubank challenged Golovkin to a bout.
With reference to Brook having moved up two weight divisions, said it would be "with a real British middleweight" before adding "my corner don't own towels".
The tweet has been condemned by veteran promotor Barry Hearn who described the comments as βshamefulβ while ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ correspondent Mike Costello also criticised Eubank Jrβs comments.
βContemptible. This is a fight he could have had and is the rant of a man who has been jilted by his girlfriend almost and turned up at the church for her wedding saying βit could have been meββ, said Costello.
βIt was a fight they were talking about when it was offered to Kell Brook and he took it in a matter of minutes.
βEubank Jr should remember also that in September 1991, his dad Chris Sr, was involved in one of the most savage fights in British boxing history, after which Michael Watson is still making adjustments to his everyday life to this day.
βHe should also remember also that after his own fight against Nick Blackwell for the British middleweight title back in March, Blackwell spent a week in hospital in an induced coma and the compassion Eubank Jr voiced around that time seems pretty hollow now.
βHis dad told me a few days later he would have risked his relationship with his son by pulling him out of a fight in which he was suffering that kind of punishment,β Costello added.
