β€˜Bionic’ woman takes on Great North run

Claire Lomas - who is paralysed from the chest down - is taking on the Great North run, thanks to the help of a bionic suit to help her walk.

The distance has taken a total of five days and requires Claire to tilt her pelvis for every step to coordinate the movements with the suit. She said: β€œIt’s not only physically hard, but it is mentally hard to concentrate and get the timing absolutely right”

She also made a special announcement during the challenge - that she has done it while being 16 weeks pregnant.

A weary Claire added: β€œIt’s a full day to do a few miles, and I’ve had a few injuries on the way. I’ll be so pleased to not do much next week, I’m very excited!”
