Hastings: Lions win in New Zealand would be 'very special'

Former player Scott Hastings says a series win for the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand would be "very special."

Hastings toured with the British and Irish Lions in Australia in 1989 and again in New Zealand four years later.

The Scot said: "What a challenge for these players ahead of you because it is going to be a tough tour.

"To get that scalp of the world champions would be a huge, huge ask for the Lions but it would be one very, very special one"

The Lions have not won a series against New Zealand since 1971.

Warren Gatland has been named as the Head Coach of the British and Irish Lions for the 2017 tour of New Zealand.

It will be the second time the Kiwi has coached the Lions, having claimed a 2 - 1 series win against Australia in 2013.
