Boss of 2012 Paralympics: β€˜Some will try to game the system’

British Paralympic Association boss Tim Hollingsworth has rejected claims the system is being manipulated to boost medal chances.

Lord Chris Holmes, who was responsible for the organisation of the London 2012 Paralympic Games said: "Classification is the absolute bedrock of Paralympic sport. Whenever you have a system of classification, there will certainly be people who try and game the system. What the International Paralympic Committee need to ensure is that the quality of the classifiers is absolutely as good as it can be (and) that there's continuing professional development.”

There can be difficulty in ensuring the classes are correct, and Lord Holmes added: β€œPeople will always slightly at the top or bottom of those classes because there's always a margin within them but that's fine. It's in no sense different to Usain Bolt being taller than some of the other people in his race. ”
