Zika makes an economic mark in Florida

The spread of the Zika virus has caused alarm around the world. It's transmitted by mosquitoes, and infected pregnant women can give birth to babies with abnormally small heads. In July, Miami became the first city on the United States mainland to experience local transmission of the disease. Efforts to contain the virus are focused on two districts, home to two world-class tourist attractions, Miami Beach and the trendy neighbourhood of Wynwood. The local authorities are concerned that fears over Zika will harm the tourist industry, the lynchpin of Florida's economy. Many would-be visitors have already stayed away. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Luis Fajardo reports from Miami, as the Sunshine State comes to terms with the economic and human cost of Zika.
