Could your birthday improve your chances of becoming Olympic champion?
Your chances of becoming an Olympic champion seem to improve if you are born on the 23rd of March.
Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny and Mo Farah are all born on the date, and theyβve won 20 gold medals between them across eight Olympic Games.
Those born at the beginning of the school year are more likely to be bigger, stronger and faster and are more likely to be noticed by scouts.
However, those younger students born towards March tend to get past the barrier of being smaller and less developed, and go on to be more successful as a result.
Professor Ian Machale from the Centre for Sport Business at Salford Business School talked to 5 live Breakfast about this phenomenon and also explained the βbirthday paradoxβ.
