Why Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come' became a Civil Rights anthem
Amongst the dread, fear and violence of the 1964 Freedom Summer in Mississippi, political scientist Professor Mary King describes how Sam Cookeβs record became a symbol of hope: "No matter what Iβm doing, I stop and I listen to the song, because itβs grabbed my heart."
