Cello

See the cello in a new light as Sol Gabetta performs Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor.

A 300-year-old instrument becomes a screen in this unique film. Infrared cameras track the cello’s position allowing a digital projection to stay locked onto its surface as it moves.

The spotlight falls on the cello again at this year’s ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Proms. The 2016 season includes ten cello concertos, starting with Elgar's much-loved composition performed by Sol Gabetta on the First Night.

Elgar's Cello Concerto was his last major work and is a national treasure. It only became widely popular in the 1960s when a performance by Jacqueline du PrΓ© caught the public imagination and became one of the best-selling classical recordings of all time.
