From Our Own Correspondent: New Pastures for Democracy
Mark Doyle recently went to South Sudan to train radio journalists and considers how their work can help spread democracy.
For years Mark Doyle reported for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ from countries across Africa and beyond - often covering wars, coups and disasters. But he also had the chance to see new democracies, and even new nations, come to maturity. He recently visited South Sudan to help train up a new generation of radio journalists - a task which entailed going deep into rural areas to catch up with cattle herders - and was moved to consider how the reporters' work might help spread democratic values.
