The Ark of Taste: The Piattella Bean

From soil to space, the Piattella bean has played an important role in the Italian region of Piedmont’s history. Grown in Cortereggio, the kidney shaped bean thrived amongst corn and grape plants, and was traded between farmers for grapes and wine. The versatile bean has since been at risk of extinction, yet is now gaining attention as the perfect space food - rich in nutrients and robust.

Viriglio Chiono explains to Dan Saladino that this rediscovery has inspired young farmers to resurrect the humble bean.
