The world famous golf club in East Lothian has been dropped from the list of venues that can host the Open Championship after it voted against admitting women as full members.

The R&A, which runs the Open, said a great sporting event could not be staged by a club that treated women differently from men. Our correspondent, Lorna Gordon, has spent the day at Muirfield.
