SATS could spark a school boycott

Groups of parents in England whose children are in primary schools are organising a boycott of classes on Tuesday, in protest against new national tests for six and seven-year-olds which start next week.

They claim that SATS are now more difficult and stressful, but the Department for Education insists the tests raise standards in literacy and numeracy.

Fiona Robertson, who is a primary school teacher and wants to take her children out of school tomorrow, and Chris McGovern, who chairs the Campaign for Real Education and advised ministers about SATS, debate the issue with Mark Mardell.
