MP: Air power by itself is hardly ever decisive

The government cannot make up its mind on who to back in Syria, says the chairman of the defence select committee.

Julian Lewis said "wars have to be won by ground forces with air power in support" but the UK lacked ground forces there.

He told Daily Politics presenter Andrew Neil that it was "absolutely a good thing not to pull down Arab dictators if the result is going to be, that you are going to get another radical Islamist state."

They were speaking about UK air strikes, and past and potential military action in Syria and Libya.
