The Queen at Llandaff Cathedral before opening the first Welsh Assembly: 1999
On 27 May 1999 Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles attended a service at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff.
Afterwards, they chatted to the crowds waiting for a glimpse of the royal party. Lunch was at the National Museum of Wales, hosted by Alun Michael MP, then Secretary of State for Wales.
Then it was on to the main engagement of the day: opening the Welsh Assembly.
