The Queen in Wrexham and Mold: 2003
Hundreds of people lined the streets as the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh made their first visit to Wrexham and Flintshire for five years on 4 June 2003. The Queen opened the Β£8million Centre of Engineering Excellence at Deeside College, where students are trained in engineering and the aerospace industry. The royal couple also met schoolchildren, students and soldiers across the area.
Politicians welcomed the trip, after the Queen failed to visit the two counties during her Golden Jubilee tour of Wales in 2002. The Queen then travelled down to Cardiff Bay to officially open the second term of the Welsh Assembly.
