How did radio change this manβs life?
Can radio change your life? It did for David Hinkins - he came on 5 live last year to tell us about his father, who was killed by a kamikaze pilot in World War Two.
After appealing to the Japanese government for help the brother of the pilot was tracked down and he sent David a video message sending his condolences and wanting to reconcile. After appearing on 5live breakfast a listener rang and offered to fund the trip for David to go to Japan so they could meet face to face.
David met up with poet James Massiah, who is appearing on every ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ national radio station this week, talking about his love of the spoken word and how radio can inspire us.
David said βA 5 live producer told me that a listener wanted to fly me to japan, within three weeks I was on a plane flying to Japan to meet the brother of the pilot who killed my fatherβ.
