Laws: Osborne views welfare as a 'cash cow to be squeezed'

The former Liberal Democrat minister, David Laws, has said that George Osborne views welfare as a "cash cow to be squeezed" and that there was a "running sore over welfare policy" during the Coalition Government.

Speaking to Andrew Marr, Mr Laws said it was "no secret" that the Chancellor and Iain Duncan Smith were not close politically.

He said Mr Duncan Smith had a moral purpose and saw welfare reform as a way to help people in to employment and was opposed to the cuts the Treasury were proposing.
