Malawi’s Citizens Retaliate

Fury about economic hardship has let do rioting in the streets

Fury about economic hardship after price hikes and uneven wage rises – coupled with the detainment of an opposition party leader – has led to the Malawian people rioting in the streets. With the release of political prisoners and international demands for reform for the first time since independence in 1964, presenter Akwe Amosu and guests, including Richard Dowden, discuss if the rigid control that silenced opposition in the past is beginning to weaken.
