Part Three
The one-child policy has produced an overindulged generation who put themselves first
There is a consensus in China today that its one-child policy, coupled with the market economy, has produced a generation of overindulged 20-something people. This is despite being brought up in a country where selflessness has been encouraged by Confucian teaching for over 2,000 years, and demanded by Communism for over half a century. This third programme in a series of four looks at how the βselfβ is now the priority for many young people, and how they are finding new ways to live together. Presented by Carrie Gracie.
