Nigerian novelist and poet Chinua Achebe made an international impact right from the publication of his first novel, Things Fall Apart, in 1958. Achebe's interest in the effects of colonialisation resonated loudly in Africa and around the world; the book has sold 10 million copies and been translated into 45 languages.
