Nigerian Midwives Saving Lives
How Nigerian community midwives are helping reduce the number of women who die in labour
The World Health Organisation estimates that half a million women round the world die in pregnancy or childbirth - and that simple, cheap measures could help prevent this. In Nigeria, village women are being trained as midwifes - the show visits the region to see them at work.
Also on the programme: What happened in the homes of an English village when the women moved out? The show hears from the community where the men were literally left holding the baby. Plus, why more women are needed to work in Antarctica.
