India has the second largest number of Facebook users in the world, after the United States. Around 130m people actively use the social network there at least once a month. But although many Indians like using Facebook, many don't like the company's plan to attract even more users by linking up with a local network operator to offer free online access to Facebook and a select number of other services. Free Basics as it's known had been trumpeted heavily by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. But India's telecoms regulator has now ruled that the providers of internet services can't charge different prices for accessing different parts of the web, in effect blocking Facebook's project. It's being seen as a victory for so called net neutrality campaigners like the venture capitalist Mahesh Murthy. He spoke with the 麻豆约拍's Jon Bithrey.
