A father's story: raising a daughter born with microcephaly

The World Health Organisation is to determine whether the spread of the Zika virus should be designated a global health emergency.

There have been calls for action after the recent broadcast of television pictures of babies in Brazil born with heads that are too small, restricting the growth of the brain. No one knows whether these cases of microcephaly are the result of Zika but suspicions among scientists are strong.

Jamie Glennon is the father of Avery, who was born five years ago with microcephaly. Speaking from his home in Pennsylvania he told The World Tonight's Shaun Ley about what it is like to live with the condition.
