Minister: UK 'playing its role' on child refugees

The UK is to accept more unaccompanied child refugees from Syria and other conflict zones - but the government has not said how many.

Speaking to the Daily Politics, ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Office minister James Brokenshire said the government would work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees β€œto identify those who are orphaned, those who are separated in the region” and how they may come to UK β€œas a consequence of that”.

Asked to give a number, he said he could not because β€œit is a question of establishing a family connection within the UK.”

The minister said there would also be a Β£10m fund to provide β€œdirect support” to child refugees in Europe, adding that the government was β€œplaying its role”.
