The complex legal battle surrounding the Exxon Valdez oil spill which occurred in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on 24 March, 1989. It is considered one of the most devastating man-made environmental disasters ever to occur at sea.

Note: With reference to the legal case mentioned in the programme, after years of court battles Exxon Mobil was ordered to pay plaintiffs $500million.
