China Buys Into Hollywood
Wang Jianlin, China's richest man, buys control of a successful Hollywood film studio. Plus, consumer groups challenge McDonald's in Europe.
China's Dalian Wanda Group has agreed to buy control of Legendary Entertainment, the company behind films such as The Dark Knight and Jurassic World. Dalian Wanda is owned by Wang Jianlin, China's richest man, and the deal has left many industry watchers speculating about the future of global cinema. Marie Keyworth speaks to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Steve Evans in Beijing about the company’s plans to build the biggest movie making complex in the world. Also, Samsung sets up an independent committee to monitor its factories after employees develop rare cancers as a result of manufacturing the technology giant’s semi-conductors. We speak to Jeong-Ok Kong, a doctor campaigning on behalf of the workers. Plus, we ask whether fast-food group McDonald’s is mistreating its franchisees in Europe, after a formal complaint is filed to the authorities in Brussels.
