Why we need a flourishing middle class
Fewer than half of Americans are now middle-class, latest figures suggest. But the middle classes are shrinking everywhere, in numbers and, crucially, incomes. There are more graduates than graduate jobs. Martin Wolf, the chief economics commentator of the Financial Times in London, says a flourishing middle class is a sign of a healthy society.
