“It’s a wonderful solar system spectacle!â€

The geysers of Enceladus are one of the great spectacles in our neighbourhood of space. One hundred jets blast ice and vapour into space from this small moon of Saturn. The great geysers rush from four deep fractures in the south polar region of Enceladus, originating from an ocean of water lying tens of kilometres below. They were discovered by the Nasa spacecraft Cassini which arrived at Saturn 11 years ago. Mission scientists describe their amazement at seeing this ‘interplanetary geyser park’ for the first time.
