Lanterns on the Lake, Petite Noir, & Gruff Rhys

Live music and conversation from Lanterns on the Lake, Petite Noir, and Gruff Rhys.

Newcastle’s baroque-β€˜n’-roll quintet, Lanterns on the Lake joined us with a taste of their ever-expanding live show in the build up to a hometown performance with the 39-piece Royal Northern Sinfonia Orchestra. Petite Noir swung by to deliver a session of his trademark β€œnoirwave”. While here, he shed some light on what that term means, as well as talking about a new freedom in African music. Gruff Rhys brought an all-star line-up of Welsh musicians in. They transformed the usually low-key 6 Music hub into a brightly coloured Pixel Land – all to give us a sneak peek of their upcoming β€œtheatre-gig”, The Insatiable, Inflatable Candylion. Empire Magazine’s Chris Hewitt reviewed the first wave of Christmas flicks, The Night Before and Crampus, as well as filling us in on what we missed over the last couple of weeks.
