10. John Lennon's 1970 Mercedes-Benz

Back in April 1989, Lennon's four-door 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limousine sold for Β£137,500 at Christie's in London.

9. Buddy Holly's Gibson acoustic guitar

Built around 1945, Buddy Holly's Gibson acoustic guitar sold for Β£139,658 in NYC's Sotheby's on June 23, 1990. The guitar was in a tooled leather case made by Holly himself.

8. Lyrics to "Getting Better"

Handwritten in 1967 by Paul McCartney, the lyrics sold for Β£161,000 at Sotheby's in London on September 14, 1995.

7. Jimi Hendrix's Fender Stratocaster

It was not just any guitar that was auctioned off on April 25, 1990, at Sotheby's and ultimately sold for Β£198,000. In fact, it was the very same electric guitar that Jimi Hendrix played at Woodstock in 1969.

6. Lyrics to "Candle in the Wind"

Bernie Taupin's handwritten and rewritten lyrics for the famous song were auctioned off at Christie's in LA and fetched Β£278,512 on February 11, 1998.

5. Eric Clapton's "Brownie" guitar

One of Eric Clapton's favorite guitars, "Brownie" was used to record the popular "Layla," explaining why a mammoth sum of Β£313,425 was shelled out at Christie's on June 24, 1999 in NYC.

4. Jerry Garcia's "Wolf" guitar

Jerry Garcia's legacy as the frontman of the Grateful Dead crossed over to the memorabilia ring. One of his two custom-made guitars, "Wolf," fetched almost 800 thousand dollars at Guernsey's auction on May 9, 2002 at Studio 54.

3. Jerry Garcia's "Tiger" guitar

Again, Jerry Garcia takes a piece of the list with him. On the same date as above, May 9, 2002, Guernsey's auction raised an additional 957 thousand dollars for the second of Garcia's custom-made guitars.

2. John Lennon's Steinway piano

The legendary Steinway Model "Z" piano was used to compose "Imagine" and came with Lennon's own cigarette burns. The upright piano sold on October 17, 2000 at Fleetwood-Owen's online auction between Hard Rock Cafe's in London and NYC for a staggering Β£1,450,000. Pop star George Michael is the proud owner of the piano, which was returned to the Beatles Story museum in Liverpool for all to see.

1. John Lennon's Rolls-Royce

This was no ordinary Rolls - the 1965 Rolls-Royce Phantom V limousine was used during touring and came with psychedelic paintwork, selling for a record sum of Β£1,768,462 in NYC's Sotheby's in 1985.
