Dungarvan, Co. Waterford: Waterford's War Dead Finally Remembered

Erected in 2013, the Waterford Memorial was inspired by the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial wall in Washington DC. The long black granite wall features the names of over 1100 people from the County of Waterford who gave their lives in the Great War. With research continuing, new names are still being added to the memorial.

It is the brainchild of Waterford T.D. John Deasy. An avid historian, he set up a committee to bring the Waterford Memorial wall to fruition. One of the committee members was Jim Shine, whose three half-brothers died in the war. Jim's father served as a medical officer on the Western Front and re-married when he returned, having a new family of which Jim was the youngest.
