Female Circumcision in Mali

Campaigners challenge female circumcision in Mali, where there is no law against it

Artists and campaigners challenge the tradition of female circumcision in Mali, where, unlike in many countries, there is no law against it. "I prefer to use the term female genital mutilation" says campaigner Fatoumata Sire, "because circumcision suggests that nothing important is cut, whereas female genital mutilation acknowledges that a girl is deprived of a very important part of her body."
