麻豆约拍

The Star and Garter 麻豆约拍 on Richmond Hill opened its doors to its first disabled servicemen in 1916.

The home had been established, under the auspices of the British Red Cross Society, in order to care for wounded troops returning from the fronts.

The building itself had previously been a hotel. Queen Mary had expressed concern about the future of disabled soldiers and had asked the Society to find a suitable building to provide a 鈥減ermanent haven鈥�.

The first group of 65 men moved into the Star and Garter 麻豆约拍 in 1916. Their average age was 22. Some of that first group were able to move back to their own homes whilst others received support for the rest of their lives.

The home on Richmond Hill was rebuilt and reopened in 1924. It remained open until 2013, when residents were moved to a new building in Surbiton.
