For the first time in Europe, surgeons have used lasers to identify cancerous tissue during an operation to remove a brain tumour. The new technique monitors the amount of light reflecting off cells in order to diagnose healthy or cancerous tissue. Reuben Hill required surgery to remove a golf ball sized tumour from his brain, and the laser was used to examine his brain cells during the operation. It's hoped the technology might remove the need to send samples for analysis during operations. Fergus Walsh reports.
